Avoid costly mistakes when creating your Virtual World!
A critical part of the MMO / Virtual World production process is finding an experienced Copywriter. This person will be responsible for creating your world's characters, character backgrounds, instructional copy, introductory dialogue, safe chat scripts, activities, quests and parental consent emails—elements that will not only set the tone for your visitors, but will also establish your brand's identity in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
If you're really lucky, you'll find a Copywriter that has also successfully produced virtual worlds. This person will have the unique skill set required to pull a "master game document" together before any art production or programming actually begin. Failure to create this document is often the most costly mistake made when creating a virtual world.

Overview of my latest Virtual World copywriting assignment
I was hired by Robert Firebaugh, Creative Director and Co-Founder of Electrotank, Inc. to write a script for a virtual world he was producing — farawayfriends.com.
Specifically, I was asked to create characters, character backgrounds, character dialogue, and quest activities specific to pre-assigned geographic regions. Additionally, I was tasked with integrating educational information (provided by his client) into these scripts.
My creative contributions to this project include:
